This is unacceptable! These numbers are pretty much the same as the 70s. Women must ask for and expect more pay. It's simply not fair that we get paid less for the same work.

One of the most important things to do is to bargain hard when you are offered a job. After that initial salary your pay doesn't go up much past that. Then, don't be afraid to ask for raises when you have proven your value to the organization.

Men ask more and expect more. Women need to do the same.

More feminist nonsense. Women don't make as much because they choose to have children. You can't have your cake and eat it too in this world. You either choose career or you choose kids, but don't be surprised at the lower salary if you choose the latter. That 5% gap that goes to 12% that ends up going even higher is NOT's pregnancy. Get your facts straight...

@Arden: Expectation is a key part of this, I believe. Men ask with more confidence because they expect a certain level of compensation off the bat.

@Greg: Even if they work full time, they should still make less just because they have children? Doesn't seem fair to me.

There are a lot of reasons that can effect this from the type of job to the amount of hours worked to the amount of pay per hour.
